Department of Transportation Physicals (DOT)

All commercial drivers whose current medical certificate expires on or after May 21, 2014, at expiration of that certificate must be examined by a medical professional listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.

The Department of Transportation requires each person who applies for DOT certification to pass a physical examination to show that they are in good health and capable of performing the duties associated with the job. Did you know an FMCSA certified physician must perform all DOT physicals?  Our Redding chiropractor, Dr. Kleefeld is listed in the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners and is qualified to perform a DOT medical exam. Our Redding chiropractor is knowledgeable and understands the laws and regulations that govern the transportation industry and what health requirements must be met in order for a person to be hired or become re-certified to drive for the DOT.

With over 20+ years of experience, Dr. Larry J. Kleefeld is a FMCSA certified physician as well as full service Redding chiropractor. He is listed on National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners and has been able to perform DOT physicals. Dr. Kleefeld and his staff are well-versed in the laws concerning the physicals and are capable of explaining the laws to patients who come to them to receive their health certification. We know what conditions will prevent a person from being certified, as well as how to treat them so the person can return to work in a timely fashion.

The Requirements Of A DOT Physical

In order for a person to pass their DOT physical, the applicant must be in overall good health. Dr. Kleefeld looks for any conditions that will prevent the person from performing the duties associated with their job. Chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure must be under control. A complete copy of the applicant's MER or health history will give Dr. Kleefeld the information he needs to either pass or deny the applicant for certification. It is important for the applicant to provide a complete list of any medications (and their dosages). A thorough physical examination will show Dr. Kleefeld if there is any other health issues present that need to be addressed before the applicant is approved.
